Artnet News: the fairs, shows and sales that matter this fall

Margaret Carrigan asked a handful of art advisors what's actually worth their time this autumn. The answer that comes up most is Art Basel Paris, which they like for the scale of the booths and the quality of what's in them. The new regional fairs are the other thing people are excited about: Art Week Tokyo's new club-style event and the first Frieze in Abu Dhabi, both of which advisors want to see because the collectors there are new to them.

On the museum side she flags Arthur Jafa's survey at the New Museum, and in London a Magritte show at Gagosian and Georg Baselitz at Thaddaeus Ropac. The auction season is heavy at the top end — a $450 million single-owner collection at Sotheby's and a restituted Kandinsky at Christie's estimated above $30 million.

What I take from it. None of that is my market. But the note about advisors chasing new fairs to meet new collectors is the same thing I'm doing with a bar in Queens: the wall is where the work meets someone who wasn't looking for it.
